Den, Council, District, AOL, Baloo, ETC... the list go on and on! don't worry! we all had to lear these new terms. Pack 216 wants to help you learn those easier as you start your Adventure with us!
below are the most frequently used Cub Scout terms in 216. if you hear something and its not on this list, feel free to ask your den leader or a council member and they will be glad to answer your questions!
Den
This is the smallest group size we have in our PAck. Each den is represented by one Rank and Grade. But if our Pack gets Big enough, we can create another Den for the same rank.
Pack
A pack is a collection of Dens. you can have as many Dens as required, but there will always be one Pack. and we are Pack 216.
District
A district is a collection of packs from a specific area! Pack 216 is a part of the Three Rivers District. Our district Covers many cities including Trussville, Warrior, Pell City, Tarrant, Ashville, Kimberly, Moody, and Leeds to name a few. Your District also includes Boy and Girl Troops, Sea Scouts, venturing, and Explorer groups.
Council
The Greater Alabam Council is our main Organizing body! they manage our Camps, fundraising, our Scout Shop, and many other aspects of your scouting interactions. GAC covers the northern and Eastern portions of the state. from Red Bay and Muscle Sholes to Birmingham and Hoover. Talladega, Oxford, Cullman, Gadsden, and Scottsboro are also a part of our Council.
Baloo
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation. Your Pack and Den Leaders must be trained to keep your young scouts safe. BALOO is one of those adult training courses your leaders can take to provide the safest experience they can. On every overnight outing, your pack has at least one BALOO-trained leader.
Class A & B
As a scout, your uniform tells everyone who you are and who you are with! Your Class A uniform is your main field uniform ( the Blue Collar Shirt ). Your Class B is a T-shirt that we wear so we don't mess up our Class A shirt by having fun! Class B is any scouting shirt (i.e., Pack shirt, camp shirt, scout event shirt, etc.)
AOL
No this isn't your internet of the 90's! this is our highest rank in Cub Scouting. it stands for Arrow of Light. this is a den of 5th graders preparing to move onto the tropp and continue their scouting adventure! if an AOL completes their requirements, they are presented with the AOL Badge which they can wear on their cub uniform, but also on their Troop uniform as well!
PWD & RGR
PWD stands for Pine Wood Derby! This is our annual event held in the first quarter of every year! RGR is the Rain Gutter Regatta! This is held in the Spring every year. Each race lets the Scouts Design, Build, and race their cars and boats for trophies! All scouts who participate earn a Patch to wear on their uniform!
